My husband rarely cooks, almost never actually. And when he does breakout his (manly) spatula it is invariably to make us a homemade pizza. Not that I’m complaining! This guy knows how to make pizza! The pizzas are all done in gourmet variations; we never eat a plain old cheese and pepperoni. My favorites usually include fresh basil because, well, I love fresh basil. It was rather unfortunate that the store didn’t have any last night, however, we persevered and came through with perhaps the best one yet!
First the dough. We used to mix it up ourselves, but we now buy the dough from the grocery store (Publix). Their dough is more consistent, workable, and tastes good too. You can find it in the baked goods section.
Next homemade sauce. This one had fire roasted tomatos as a base (Yum!). I usually add some combination of spices. This particular one had garlic powder, basil, oregano, and black pepper.
The cheeses: mozzerella and smoked gouda (trust me!)
And toppings: these are the icing on the cake (so to speak) and really give your pizza it’s flavor.
fresh garlic - almost all of our pizzas have diced garlic on top.
barbeque chicken - we actually bought a chicken breasts and threw them on the grill when we got home form the store
roasted red peppers - this one I cheated on. I just bought a jar of them and they worked great.
avocado chunks - okay, my husband was doubtful on this one, but I really wanted to try it so he sauted them- with some fresh rosemary (from our little bush in the front yard) and they turned out amazing!
It just occurred to me that I don’t know the cooking instructions so I will add those when I find out.
This pizza can get too salty fast so be careful how much of the smoked gouda you use and of how saucy the bbq chicken pieces are.
This particular pizza was very time consuming and not the norm. You don’t have to spend a lot of time to make an awesome gourmet pizza.
Fun info: I love pizza and wouldn’t mind eating it everyday, because of this my husband has given me a few monikers. Normally I am Pizza-zombie, but also known as Pizza junkie. Nice, huh?

Mmmm… That looks and sounds yummy!
Oh my gawd, your husband is awesome! That pizza is gorgeous!
I would like to speak out in the my (The Husband) defense. I like how I got the “never cooks” line, yet I am the full-time grilling engineer. Miss GirlWhirled is “afraid” to even start the grill so it is I that must brave the elements and assure that the meat is cooked to specifications.
Being a husband is such a thankless job.
